About Me

Hi! Thank you for checking out my photography portfolio. My name is Mina Cho, and I’m currently a high school senior in the Boston area. I’ve been taking photos since middle school when I first started taking digital photography electives. I started to develop an interest in film photography in 2020 and picked it up as a self-taught quarantine hobby. Since then, I’ve taken both film and digital photography classes in high school, as well as a summer digital photography class at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston.

Although I’ve tried various artistic mediums, photography has been the main one to really ‘stick’. I find a sense of catharsis when taking photographs, as I’m able to place all my attention on the subject of the photo. My main role as a photographer is that of a quiet observer, however, I’m constantly trying to push myself to be more upfront. Working with people as my subjects is what I find most engaging yet also most challenging about photography. I think it’s rewarding to capture someone’s story within a photograph, but equally as important is being able to tell your own story throughout your images. So far, many of my images focus mainly on small moments of relationships, whether that is between people or between one person and their surroundings. Throughout my time as a photographer, I hope to develop a greater sense of self, as well as greater comprehension of the world around me.
